The Mercedes-Benz W126 earned its reputation for exceptional durability, but even the best-engineered cars eventually develop age-related weak points.

The window regulator relies on small plastic clips to connect and secure the glass within the mechanism. After decades of operation, these clips can become brittle and eventually crack or break. The result is often a window that moves unevenly, becomes loose, makes unusual noises or stops operating correctly.
The important point is that a broken clip does not necessarily mean the entire window regulator needs to be replaced. In many cases, the original mechanism is still perfectly serviceable and only the plastic retaining components have failed.
Replacing the clips can therefore restore the operation of the window while retaining the original regulator.
